This image is the stepping stone to the start of my journey to Oxford Circus. The use of an iconic scene in the London Underground demonstrates the travelling I had to do for many days in the past few years. The portrayal of a train showcases the significance of the underground and how it has changes throughout the years, but at the same time it still manages to be an iconic symbol of the city of London. As a result, it displays the start of my journey that is made and exhibits the people that I would pass everyday. The editing has involved the use of colours; by accentuating the red and blue, it allows the viewer to recognise the city and create an urban/ modern life to the picture.
The next part of the journey displays the the underground exit/entrance. This was a crucial aspect to include within my project as it demonstrates the the urban and and less affluent side of London, focusing on the dirt that is seen on the side of the photo on the walls. The photo portrays normal, working class people that represent locals of London. meeting people though out the travelling part of the journey is a part of my identity as i chose these people as they seem to be similar to me, just a citizen of the UK. The use of depth allows the viewer to see observe it from a distance and almost put themselves in the yes of the photographer.
As soon as I step out of the underground the first thing I see is the iconic London Underground sign. I chose to capture this sign as a use of iconography, and especially show an insight into how the city has not changed certain elements, it has kept its sense of tradition. This is because people, both nationally and globally, recognise this sign, which has been in both the younger and older generation for many years. I chose to capture this picture in a high angle shot to demonstrate the superiority of the city and how it has reflected upon myself. Seeing this sign everyday when I go to work signifies a sense of identity. Again, I have emphasised the colour red, but the rest of image maintains black and white, as I wanted to portray the progress it has made in terms of modernity, however it still manages to keep the reality and authenticity of the both the picture and of London itself.
Even though this is a picture of another sign, I chose to take this image to emphasise the importance of this particular high street. Oxford Circus has been the location of my workplace for many years and the different people, places and transport that I see everyday is what drives me to work here. I currently live in London and have done since I was born, and this image signifies my only sense of independence. Oxford circus is well known globally for its high street fashion and this is the place that inspires my future occupation to join the fashion industry. This was the perfect location to showcase the different elements of London as consists with such a vibrant and lively atmosphere, which is typical of an urban area in modern society.
Leading on from the fashion inspired city of London, I chose this photo as one my final pieces due to the fact that everyone in this picture is wearing jeans. wanted to capture the people of London when they are in their own element and observe what makes them feel comfortable. It allows the viewer to see a certain representational approach of normal, day to day British people. in this picture I desired to challenge the stereotype of every Londoner being perceived as posh and affluent, when they can be seen as realistic people.
This photo focuses more on the typical street photograohy that I wanted to focus on, providing the urban aspect of London, providing a different angle. This picture was only slightly edited as I did not want to disrupt the shine of the floor in the picture. This demonstrates an element of beauty within the image even through it it raining. This was inspired and adapted from the commercial photographer Nicholas Goodden, as I wanted to display a point of view shot that ported the picturesque aspect of London, consisting of different people. This part of my journey shows the different people and the landscape within the streets of London.
The colours involved in this picture are used in order to portray a traditional London, whilst at the same time creating a sense of modernity and beauty. I wanted to exhibit a piece that shows the end of the project and my journey, but simultaneously leaving a perception of awe and a picturesque city. The use of street photography, and the black and white colour creates an element of realism and casualness to the image, whilst in contrast to the vibrancy of the red.
